Magnesium Lab

Materials
- tripod.
- two equal strips of Magnesium.
- scale.
- two batterys.
- bunsen burner.
- crucible.
- clay triangle.
- clips.
- lights.
Safety Concerns
1) DON'T wear baggy clothes.
2) keep hair pulled back.
3) MUST wear goggles.
4) NO open toed shoes.
Procedure
1) cut two strips of Magnesium.
2) twist the two pierces togather.
3) mass the empty crucible.
4) zero it out and mass the crucible w/ Magnesium in.
5) remove the Magnesium.
6) put the crucible on the clay triangle on the tripod.
7) light the bunsen burner.
8) put the strips of Magnesium in the flame until it begins to light.
9) DON'T look into the light when the Magnesium lights.
10) look out corner and drop into the crucible.
11) let it cool off.
12) then after it has cooled off figure out the mass on the scale.
13) record the mass.
Data Collected
empty crucible - 22.04 Grams
unborned Magnesium - 0.06 Grams
burned Magnesium - 1.04 Grams
Errors
no errors known of.
Questions
1) weight of crucible - 22.04 Grams, mass of Magnesium - 0.06, after burning - 1.04.
2) it gave off heat so it would be exothermic.
3) it reacted from electricity.
4) Magnesium Oxide and Magnesium Nitrate.
5) Oxygen and Magnesium.
